Experience

I've been teaching English for more than 15 years in England, Holland, Portugal and Japan. I was in Japan from 2006 to 2009, teaching one-to-one and now I'm back at Academy St John's Wood School of English, in England, teaching multi-lingual group classes. ( I first worked there from 2000 to 2006)
So...I have quite a lot of experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds from all over the world. One-to-one, about 200 (I think!) and in group classes, of course, many, many more.I've taught General English, Business English, English for Academic Purposes, all the major exams, English for bankers, flight attendants, garden-designers, chefs, rock-bands, shipping tycoons, waitresses, interior designers.......................!!

Interests

I play guitar and have already recorded my first album ("Akadakechan" finished 2009) on my beloved Apple computer and am working on my second (working title "Rothko's Smile') I love music. All kinds of music as long as it's good! I love the usual suspects from the sixties like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Dylan but my tastes are quite wide. I like Ska/Blue Beat, Motown, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Robyn Hitchcock, The Smiths, Chopin, Cornelius, Kraftwerk, Miles Davis and one of my all-time favourite tracks is "No Diggety" by Blackstreet (and Dr Dre)
I love gardens and gardening. slow cooking and eating, films (Tarantino), reading (Murakami) and when the chemistry is right between teacher and student(s), I love teaching English.
I speak a little French and Dutch and a very little Japanese. One of my biggest interests, however, is researching languages and language groups to find out why students have problems with different aspects of English.
